Prostitution in Uruguay

Prostitution in Uruguay is legal for persons over the age of 18. Prostitution is common and it is practiced openly in major cities and tourist resorts.

Human trafficking victims within the country are trafficked to the provinces closest to the borders with Argentina and Brazil, notably in Paysandú, Salto, and Colonia.[1]

Some women are also trafficked to Spain and Italy for commercial sexual exploitation, through the use of false job offers.[1]

Occasionally, parents facilitate the exploitation of their children in prostitution.[2]
